Wondering what it’s like to be part of an Oxjam Takeover? Maybe you want to know what an Oxjam Takeover is? Take a look at this video from last year’s team explaining a little more about last years event.
Want to be involved in this year’s Takeover? We’re looking for volunteers to join our team and help make the Oxford 2012 takeover bigger and better – Click here for more information
Only a few months ago we were celebrating the end of a fantastic day of local music and fundraising for Oxfam, but it’s now time to look ahead to Oxjam Oxford Takeover 2012 and we’re looking for new team members!
Yes that’s right, we are already setting the wheels in motion for this year’s festival. (Well, you know what they say about the early bird!) This year we want it to be even bigger and better than last year! More bands, more music, more events and most importantly we want to raise even more money!
For this we’ll need even more help. We are currently looking for volunteers to give up their time to play a key role in making this year’s festival happen. We are looking for a Marketing Co-ordinator, Production Co-ordinator and Fundraising co-ordinator to join the team starting in April.
If you’re passionate about raising money for Oxfam, your local music scene and putting on fantastic events then get check out the role profiles and email Takeover manager Katie Herring to get an application form.
The whole Oxjam team would like to say a massive thankyou to everyone who helped make the Takeover possible and helped us raise the £2800 which will go directly to Oxfam to help fight poverty all over the world.
Thanks to all the performers, venues, volunteers and everyone who bought a ticket or donated time and money. The money you all helped to raise is enough to pay for the labour and materials to refurbish two classrooms like the N.V. Massaquoi Schoolin West Point, one of the Liberian capital’s poorest and most overcrowded districts.
The aim of this Oxfam project was to make education available to more young people. So, local builders and craftspeople were employed to help renovate schools – such as N.V. Massaquoi – which had suffered from looting during Liberia’s 14-year civil war and as a result of subsequent neglect. Work has provided the school with improved classrooms, a kitchen, library and recreational facilities, and a flow of much-needed cash into the local economy.
Just by taking part in this fantastic music event you’ve helped projects just like this one which is why they call it Local Music Global Impact!
Jam pack your weekend with even more local music and head to Didcot this Friday for Oxjam Rocks.
Happening the night before the main Oxford Takeover, Didcot rocks is another Oxjam event organised by another local volunteer. Four bands for just five pounds, from thoughtful indie rock to punk rock, the event takes place at the Marlborough Club, Didcot.
Performers include: Black Hats, Half Naked, Very Nice Harry ( who’ll also be at the Takeover on Saturday) and Deer Chicago
That’s right we can announce official times for Saturday’s event.
For those of you who have bought tickets in advance you must collect your wristband from the stand at the o3 gallery between 12-5:30pm or at Modern Art Oxford from 6pm onwards.
