The whole Oxjam team would like to say a massive thankyou to everyone who helped make the Takeover possible and helped us raise the £2800 which will go directly to Oxfam to help fight poverty all over the world.
Thanks to all the performers, venues, volunteers and everyone who bought a ticket or donated time and money. The money you all helped to raise is enough to pay for the labour and materials to refurbish two classrooms like the N.V. Massaquoi Schoolin West Point, one of the Liberian capital’s poorest and most overcrowded districts.
The aim of this Oxfam project was to make education available to more young people. So, local builders and craftspeople were employed to help renovate schools – such as N.V. Massaquoi – which had suffered from looting during Liberia’s 14-year civil war and as a result of subsequent neglect. Work has provided the school with improved classrooms, a kitchen, library and recreational facilities, and a flow of much-needed cash into the local economy.
Just by taking part in this fantastic music event you’ve helped projects just like this one which is why they call it Local Music Global Impact!
Jam pack your weekend with even more local music and head to Didcot this Friday for Oxjam Rocks.
